“But As For Me…”

O’ Theophilus,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 1:1, ESV).

It has been some time since my last correspondence. I request your prayers on my behalf, most excellent Theophilus. I write from a difficult place, but the Lord is my steadiness and hope in it.

As I was reading through the book of Micah today, I reflected on the author’s description of wickedness and injustice in the final chapter of the composition. In sorrow, the author recounts the spiritual state of those around him, lamenting the lack of the godliness and the overwhelming presence of wickedness around him (Micah 7:1-6). However, concluding his reflection on this troubling, bleak spiritual environment, the author proclaims, “But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me” (Micah 7:7, ESV).

Friends, we walk in a world of spiritual darkness. The laments of Micah at the spiritual decline around him should draw eerie resemblance to the anguish of the godly at the world we find ourselves in today. Yet, we are not without hope. What we have in this tragic darkness is to remember the Source of our salvation, the One who hears. In our cries for justice and deliverance, we can find comfort knowing those cries do not go unheard. The Great King and Judge will deliver His own from this darkness, and He has already begun this work of deliverance. The Savior Jesus is the conduit through whom we may receive this deliverance. He is our deliverance from this darkness, dear Theophilus.

Do you long for deliverance? Do you long for justice? O’ Theophilus, this deliverance and justice is found in One Name, the Name of Jesus, who will not disappoint and leave us alone in the present darkness. The wicked may outnumber us and tempt us into thinking that ours is a lost cause, but as for you and me, let us turn to hope, One who brings victory and salvation on our behalf.

My prayers and heart are with you, most excellent Theophilus.

Grace be with you,

caleb
